I think they only mean know your horses if you actually plan to write about horses. Which I don't!

True! I might have a character on a horse but as long as I don't say it's one type and describe another completely different type it should be fine...

I've got a mate who's really into horses and for one of my books I had to ask her if ponies could run as fast as horses! Laughing

Apparently it depends on the size of the pony. A shetland isn't going to be able to run as fast as a whacking gurt stallion.
