Interzone 25 years of great SF

The next issue is due out in March and will contain new short stories by Alastair Reynolds, M John Harrison, Gwynneth Jones and Hal Duncan.
IZ 208 is in the shops now. It contains new writer Gary Leeming's short story, 'Empty Clouds', his first professional publication.

Alastair Reynolds is now an SF novelist with a world wide reputation. but in 1990 he was an unknown whose first story appeared in Interzone.

New artists and illustrators are also welcome and IZ provides a start point for a professional career. Award winning cover artist Dominic Harman is an example of an artist who is now regularly commissioned to provide cover illustrations for books and magazines both here and in the US.

I'll keep an eye out for it and maybe even order a copy. I like the guidelines for submissions - 15000 words gives the writer plenty of scope, so many magazines and competitions limit the word count to 2000 or so which is very hard, with 15k there's more time to create atmosphere, build characters and develop a plot. Thanks for the info!

Interzone 208 on sale 209 due soon

I believe IZ welcomes more at the 3 to 6k length because they are so much easier to fit in the mag. The next issue 209, should have a 64 page cover mount book with a 24k story by Edward Morris. Otherwise it have to serialised.

Check it out, stories by Gwynneth Jones, M John Harrison, Hal Duncan and Alastair Reynolds in the main body of IZ 209 as well.

Thanks for sorting out the subject line.

Cover mount looking iffy now. Oh well it's still worth buying Interzone or even better, subscribe.

They have them the other side of the Irish Sea as well.

No data or dates for Octocon 2007 yet.

Quote:
Simply put, Octocon is Ireland's national Science Fiction and Fantasy convention.

Not quite so simply put; Octocon is an gathering of fans of science fiction, fantasy, comic books and horror. It runs for a whole weekend and takes place every October. Last year, it happened on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th of October.
And what happens at Octocon, exactly?

Oh, lots of things! We cover an incredibly wide variety of topics with panels, interviews, discussions, workshops, rare movies, games, and parties. Every Octocon is a little different to those that have gone before.

Thanks for that, I didn't realise, will look into it! Appreciated!
